India batsman Rohit Sharma has been ruled out of the rest of the one-day series after suffering a broken finger during the second match on Wednesday.

Sharma fractured the middle finger of his right hand whilst fielding in Cardiff and will be replaced by Murali Vijay in the touring squad.

Rohit had played an important role in India’s 133-run win in the second ODI, scoring 52 runs off 87 balls.

He was also one of the better players in the tourists’ 3-1 Test series defeat to England but will not play again this summer.

India have three one-day internationals and a T20 fixture left to play against England.

The third match in the ODI series, which India lead 1-0, will be played at Trent Bridge on Saturday but Vijay is unlikely to arrive in Nottingham in time to feature.

India are expected to ask Ajinkya Rahane to open in place of Rohit alongside Shikhar Dhawan on Saturday, with Ambati Rayudu drafted into the middle order.
