Stuart Broad has been included in an unchanged England squad for the fifth and final Test against India which begins at The Oval on August 15.
Alastair Cook’s side completed a crushing victory over India in the fourth Test on Saturday, winning by an innings and 54 runs on day three of the Old Trafford match to secure a 2-1 series lead.
Broad was struck on the nose by a steepling delivery after the ball came through the grille of his helmet but he is expected to feature in south London wearing a face mask.
Broad took to Twitter to provide an update on his injury after Sky Sports commentator Sir Ian Botham enquired after his wellbeing.
“Thanks Beefy. Yeah, couple of breaks and cuts in the nose but doesn't feel too bad,” he tweeted.
“Little bit sore this morning but not too bad! Doc did a great job with the stitches. On to The Oval! (with a mask),” he added.
Botham was less than sympathetic in response though, tweeting: “Is the mask to protect you or the Sky viewers not to mention the commentators !!”
If Broad is unable to play, Middlesex pace bowler Steven Finn could step up, with Ben Stokes the other player in the 13-man squad who did not compete in Manchester.
England squad for fifth Test: Alastair Cook, Moeen Ali, James Anderson, Gary Ballance, Ian Bell, Stuart Broad, Jos Buttler, Steven Finn, Chris Jordan, Sam Robson, Joe Root, Ben Stokes, Chris Woakes.
