Cheteshwar Pujara was thrilled to be named man of the match after India completed a nine-wicket thrashing of England in the first Test in Ahmedabad.

The batsman hammered an unbeaten 206 as India cruised to 521-8 in their first innings, and Pujara then cracked 41 not out from only 51 balls to guide the hosts past their victory target of 77 on the final morning.

"It's a great feeling," he said. "I was out for almost a year because of injury and since I've been back I've been enjoying the dressing-room atmosphere.

"The ball was hard and coming nicely onto the bat. I had a lot of confidence after scoring a double hundred.

"I think initially the pitch was quite slow but as the game progressed the ball was coming nicely onto the bat. There was a bit of time when it was quite slow so it was difficult for the bowlers to get the wickets.

"I would like to congratulate our bowlers on the way they bowled and kept their patience to get England out twice."
