Pakistan get to work on Mohammad Hafeez action ahead of World Cup deadline

Pakistan will begin remedial work on Mohammad Hafeez's bowling action immediately after it was deemed illegal by the International Cricket Council.

The off-spinner was reported during a Test match against New Zealand last month, and subsequent tests in England found his action breached the ICC's limits on elbow extension.

Pakistan are already without Saeed Ajmal under similar circumstances, although both have been named in a preliminary 30-man squad for next year's World Cup.

The pair must have their reworked actions cleared by the ICC before the final January 7 deadline if they are to make the cut when the squad is halved.

Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Shaharyar Khan hopes a second ICC test on both can be conducted before that date.

And he said of Hafeez: "We have decided to withdraw Hafeez from the one-day series against New Zealand and he will go to Chennai for unofficial tests and some remedial work."
