Sri Lanka have recalled veteran batsman Mahela Jayawardene to their squad for the upcoming Test series against Pakistan.
The former captain declared himself unavailable for the current one-day international series due to personal reasons, but he will travel to the United Arab Emirates for the three-Test series which starts on New Year's Eve in Abu Dhabi.
The 36-year-old, one of only two Sri Lanka batsmen alongside Kumar Sangakkara to score more than 10,000 Test runs, has been named in a squad that includes young paceman Vishwa Fernando.
The 22-year-old left-arm seamer, who has played only 15 first-class matches taking 37 wickets, is the only uncapped player in the 16-man party.
All-rounder Dilruwan Perera and off-spinners Sachitra Senanayake and Dilruwan Perera have yet to play Test cricket although they have featured in one-day internationals, while Ajantha Mendis has been overlooked.
Left-arm spinner Rangana Herath is also back in favour along with paceman Shaminda Eranga, who was rested for the limited-overs clashes against New Zealand and Pakistan.
Angelo Mathews retains the captaincy for the series, which also includes Tests in Dubai and Sharjah in January.
