Hampshire have secured the services of Pakistan spinner Saeed Ajmal for the closing stages of the 2013 County Championship.
Ajmal will qualify as one of the county's overseas players during August and September, a period when Australia Twenty20 captain George Bailey will have international commitments against England.
The 35-year-old is rated one of the best slow bowlers in the world, and although classed as an off-spinner, much of his success has come down to his 'doosra' and subtle changes in speed and flight.
He previously played domestically with Worcestershire during the 2011 season, taking 17 wickets in three first-class matches and also proving successful in one-day and Twenty20 games.
Ajmal said: "I am very pleased to be joining Hampshire to play in the County Championship. I have always enjoyed playing in England and look forward to playing my part in helping Hampshire get promoted."
Hampshire manager Giles White said; "As things stand, it is possible that both George and Danny (Briggs) could be involved in the ODI series between England and Australia so the availability of Saeed for August and September is a great fit.
"He is one of the best bowlers in the world in all forms of the game and will add real quality to the squad at the business end of the season."
