All-rounder Moeen Ali is to join up with the England squad in the West Indies after suffering no ill-effects from his return to action.

The Worcestershire man was left out of the original 16-man party, having torn his abdominal muscles at the World Cup.

But he will now join the squad on Saturday ahead of the second Test in Grenada, having come through a four-day match for his county against Yorkshire.

Adil Rashid was selected in place of Moeen in the original party but could yet be sent back to Yorkshire, after James Tredwell got the nod ahead of him for the first Test.

Moeen enjoyed a successful first summer in Test cricket last year, taking 19 wickets with his off-spin in a series win over India and making a memorable unbeaten century in a heartbreaking loss to Sri Lanka.

He is therefore a strong candidate to play in the second Test if deemed fit but his availability would present England with something of a selection dilemma.

Tredwell has performed well on his return to the Test side after a five-year absence, taking four wickets in the first innings.

And England might therefore be tempted to field two spinners in Grenada, if the conditions seem to favour such a course of action.
