Andrew Flintoff has urged the ECB to fully explain the reason for Kevin Pietersen’s sacking.

It’s time the ECB told us, the paying public who are missing out on watching Kevin, what went on.

Pietersen was axed by England in the wake of the Ashes whitewash last winter, with ECB managing director Paul Downton since claiming that the 34-year-old had become “disengaged” from the side.

However, former England all-rounder Flintoff believes the ECB should go into further detail about why they jettisoned a player with 23 Test and nine one-day international centuries.

“What Kevin's done can’t be as bad as what’s been portrayed and it’s time the ECB told us, the paying public who are missing out on watching him, what went on,” Flintoff told Sky Sports.

“I think Kevin is somebody with immense talent who people are quick to praise when he is good, and jump on straightaway when he has a bad game or something doesn’t go his way.

Trainer

“He was challenging at times because sometimes he wants to do things his way but as long as it is working out in the middle, that’s fine.

“He was the hardest trainer so Kevin was never a problem for me and as a player I’d have him every day of the week.”

Pietersen is highly unlikely to be selected in England’s 15-man squad for the 2015 World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, which is announced on Saturday morning.

But the South Africa-born star, who is currently playing for Melbourne Stars in the Big Bash, said on Twitter that his “phone is on” and that he would take a call from England’s management.
