Vernon Philander and Beuran Hendricks have pulled out of South Africa's squad for the tri-series with Zimbabwe and Australia later this month.
Philander is still being troubled by a hamstring injury and Hendricks is sidelined with a back problem.
They both missed the three recent limited-overs matches against Zimbabwe but were expected to recover in time for the second leg of the tour.
Fast bowlers Kyle Abbott and Mthokozisi Shezi have been retained as cover and star bowlers Morne Morkel and Dale Steyn return to the squad after being rested for the first three matches.
Young batsman Rilee Rossouw has been retained but there is no place for seamer Marchant de Lange.
"Kyle impressed in the three matches he played against Zimbabwe while Mthokozisi, who also did well on his debut, is a like-for-like replacement for Beuran," said convener of selectors Andrew Hudson.
"It was also pleasing to see Marchant de Lange resume his international career, so well after a lengthy injury break and he underlines the tremendous depth we have to our fast bowling resources at the moment."
The seven-match series starts at the Harare Sports Club on Monday with the final scheduled for September 6.
