England batsman Ian Bell has been cleared of serious injury after being taken to hospital for X-rays on Tuesday morning.
Bell hurt his left hand on the third day of the third Test against India at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton when an edge from Murali Vijay off James Anderson fell just short of him at second slip.
His left thumb took the main impact of the blow and he was forced off the pitch as a result.
However, X-rays revealed no broken bones and he was able to return to the ground, although he was unable to field immediately and was later seen with heavy strapping and ice on his left hand.
The England and Wales Cricket Board tweeted: "No fracture, acute bruising, so he'll remain off the field for treatment."
Sean Terry, the son of former Hampshire and England batsman Paul Terry, fielded as a substitute for Bell, who made 167 on Monday as England amassed 569-7 declared in their first innings.
