Kevin Pietersen still has a big role to play for England, according to Eoin Morgan.

Reports have suggested that Pietersen's international career could be coming to an end after England's Ashes humiliation.

Speculation has emerged that team director Andy Flower is prepared to drop the batsman as England look to rebuild following their 5-0 drubbing in Australia.

There have been strong claims that Flower and Pietersen do not see eye to eye, and Flower's backing from the England and Wales Cricket Board appears to have given him the upper hand in any dispute.

Pietersen has been left out of the squad for the one-day series in Australia, but he hopes to feature in the limited-overs tour of the West Indies which starts next month.

Positive contribution

That tour will provide the final warm-up for the World Twenty20 in Bangladesh, and Morgan believes Pietersen must be included.

"I am a mate of Kevin. He is a player that every side in the world would want in their team," Morgan said. "There's no reason why I wouldn't want him at the Twenty20 World Cup.

"He played in the last one-day series and I captained the side and he was really good in the dressing room.

"He makes a positive contribution."

Pietersen was England's leading run scorer during the Ashes despite averaging only 29, but his future appears to be in jeopardy with Flower pledging to bring in a "new era".

Pietersen has twice taken to Twitter to voice his "strong desire" to remain an England player since the Ashes were lost, although his intention to play in the Indian Premier League could again put him at odds with management.
