Bangladesh have restored Shakib Al Hasan to their squad for the forthcoming two-Test series in Zimbabwe.

The star all-rounder has been sidelined since undergoing surgery on a shin problem in Australia in February, which ruled him out of last month's tour to Sri Lanka.

But Shakib has been passed fit to return in Zimbabwe, although he will play only as a specialist batsman in the opening Test as a precaution.

Chief selector Akram Khan said: "We do not want to take any risk, so he will play as a batsman in the first Test. In the second Test he will be able to bowl as well."

Bangladesh have also been boosted by the return of opener Tamim Iqbal, who has recovered from the fractured thumb he sustained during last month's one-day international series in Sri Lanka.

The tourists have also handed a recall to paceman Sajidul Islam, who replaces the injured Abul Hasan despite having not featured in the Test arena since he faced New Zealand in 2008.

"We have recalled Islam because of his recent good form," added Khan, who revealed that former captain Mashrafe Mortaza was not considered for selection because he was unfit.

Batsman Shahriar Nafees and spinner Enamul Haque, who sat out the series in Sri Lanka due to injuries, have also been recalled for the two Tests in Harare, with the opener starting on 17 April.

Squad: Mushfiqur Rahim (Capt), Mohammad Mahmudullah, Tamim Iqbal, Jahurul Islam, Mohammad Ashraful, Shakib Al Hasan, Mominul Haque, Nasir Hossain, Sohag Gazi, Rubel Hossain, Shahadat Hossain, Shahriar Nafees, Enamul Haque, Robiul Islam, Sajidul Islam.
