Gayle smashes 65 in ICC World Twenty20 warm-up clash

Chris Gayle blasted an unbeaten 65 as West Indies eased to an eight-wicket victory in their ICC World Twenty20 warm-up clash against Afghanistan. The big-hitting batsman smashed four sixes as his side chased down a target of 123 with more than four overs to spare in Colombo. Afghanistan, who have been drawn in the same group as England for the tournament proper, could only manage 122-7 after winning the toss and opting to bat. Asghar Stanikzai was their top-scorer with 53 from 50 balls, but only three other batsmen managed to make it into double figures. Paceman Fidel Edwards claimed the scalp of Stanikzai and two others to finish as the pick of the bowlers with 3-24, while spinner Sunil Narine returned 2-23 as he took two wickets in consecutive overs. Mohammad Nabi (2-29) made two breakthroughs during the Windies' chase but Afghanistan's overall bolwing effort was lacklustre as they conceded 20 extras in just 15.5 overs. Gayle struck nine boundaries in total as he took just 48 balls to reach his 65.
