Mahendra Singh Dhoni: Ready to step aside
Mahendra Singh Dhoni has admitted he would quit as captain of India should a replacement be available.
"At the end of the day, you want India to perform. If there is someone who can do a better job, then it's a place that should be given to him."
Mahendra Singh Dhoni Quotes of the week
India have been heavily criticised after they suffered a series whitewash against Australia - with Dhoni missing the final Test following a one-match ban for the team's slow over rate.
Wicketkeeper Dhoni led India to the World Twenty20 title in 2007 as well as the World Cup in 50-over cricket in 2011 before the team escalated their way to No.1 in the Test rankings.
However, they have subsequently slumped in form - beginning with a 4-0 series thumping by England before a second successive whitewash on tour in Australia.
Despite holding the captaincy since 2007 Dhoni has conceded that he would be willing to hand it over should a suitable man for job come along.

"It's not something I want to hold on or stick on to," he said. "If there's a better replacement, it's a very open thing, he can come in.
"At the end of the day, you want India to perform. If there is someone who can do a better job, then it's a place that should be given to him.
"It's not something you have to cling on to. It's not a position that belongs to anyone.
"The responsibility was given to me three-and-half years back and I have been trying to fit into the shoes, trying to get along with the team and perform well wherever we play."
