Moises Henriques will captain a strong Australia A side against England next week.

The New South Wales all-rounder will lead a team featuring top-order batsmen Michael Klinger, who starred for Gloucestershire this year, and Usman Khawaja, the only player included who played in the summer's Ashes series.

Callum Ferguson and Shaun Marsh, who have played 71 one-day internationals between them, and Alex Doolan are the other frontline batsmen selected.

Henriques and vice-captain Glenn Maxwell provide all-round options in a team heavy on ODI experience, with Tim Paine selected as wicketkeeper.

Ben Cutting, Trent Copeland and slow left-armer Jon Holland are the core Australian bowlers for the November 6-9 clash at the Blundstone Arena in Hobart.

Important

National selector John Inverarity said: "We have struck a balance in what we think is the appropriate Australia A team to face England, while ensuring individuals have a solid preparation and chance to impress.

"While these next couple of rounds of (Sheffield) Shield cricket are important, the (National Selection Panel) is well advanced in its planning around the squad for the first Test.

"Moises Henriques will have a significant leadership opportunity by captaining this team against England while Glenn Maxwell gets a chance to support Moises as the team's vice-captain and will play an important role as the spin bowling all-rounder in the side.

"All of the top six batsmen have shown good form of late and will be looking to impress against a quality opposition as they strive for higher honours."

The team will be coached by Ali De Winter, assisted by former England batsman Graeme Hick.

The match will be the second of England's tour, following a three-day game against Western Australia at the WACA from this Thursday. The Test series begins in Brisbane on November 21.

Australia A squad: Moises Henriques (capt), Glenn Maxwell, Trent Copeland, Ben Cutting, Alex Doolan, Callum Ferguson, Jon Holland, Usman Khawaja, Michael Klinger, Shaun Marsh, Tim Paine.
