Young Australia fast bowler Pat Cummins looks set to miss the return Ashes series after suffering a recurrence of his back injury.
Cummins, 20, announced himself on the world Test stage by taking seven wickets against South Africa in October 2011 - but he is yet to play a second match.
He was flown home early from the Australia A tour of Africa with what has been confirmed as a recurrence of the lower back bone stress injury.
Cricket Australia chief medical officer Justin Paolinin said: "Pat returned home early...with some side/back soreness and scans have shown a partial recurrence of his lower back bone stress injury suffered in October last year.
"He will be closely monitored to determine his return to the playing field, but expect that he will miss most of the 2013-14 domestic cricket season."
In June, he toured England with the A team after being sidelined for nine months with a back injury but did not play a match.
The latest injury means he will also miss the home Ashes series against England starting in November.
