Kevin Pietersen has given England a huge boost by declaring himself fit to make his comeback from injury.
Pietersen, who has not played since the winter tour of New Zealand because of a knee injury, netted with the rest of the England one-day squad at Dulwich College on Tuesday.
He pronounced himself delighted with his fitness and he is expected to make his return to the middle in Surrey's County Championship match with Yorkshire at Headingley which starts on Friday next week.
Pietersen tweeted: "Just had another brilliant net session followed by a fitness/fielding session. Feeling great! Game next week! #boom."
If all goes well at Headingley he will play in England's one Ashes warm-up game against Essex at Chelmsford on June 30.
The first Test against Australia starts on 10 July at Trent Bridge.
