Phil Hughes did his hopes of a senior recall no harm with a double century for Australia A against South Africa A in their quadrangular series clash in Darwin.
Hughes hit 202 off 151 balls to set a new record high score for an Australian batsman in a List A game, bettering the 197 David Warner scored for New South Wales against Victoria last October.
The 25-year-old helped his side out of trouble, standing at the other end as Cameron White, Callum Ferguson and Tom Cooper all fall cheaply as Australia A slumped to 46-3.
But Hughes was joined by Moises Henriques in a scintillating stand of 220, the latter scoring 90 off 85 balls before becoming the fourth wicket to fall.
Hughes went on to dominate a fifth-wicket partnership of 84 with Mitch Marsh (12no) and he coolly reached 200 off the final ball of the innings when he lifted a Hardus Viljoen (1-90) delivery over the mid-wicket ropes for his sixth maximum - he also hit 18 fours.
His 202 proved to be one run more than the entire South Africa line-up managed in their reply, with Kane Richardson taking 4-45 as they were bowled out for 201 in 37.4 overs.
White and Cameron Boyce chipped in with a couple of wickets apiece with Farhaan Behardien top-scoring for South Africa with 67 at a run-a-ball.
