Australia skipper Michael Clarke is winning his battle against a back problem but remains unsure whether he will be fit to face Sri Lanka in their must-win Champions Trophy game on Monday.

Clarke has been forced to sit out the defeat to England and the no result against New Zealand during the tournament as he continues to battle a persistent problem.

Australia must beat Sri Lanka to have any chance of qualifying for the semi-finals.

Clarke's participation in this summer's Ashes also remains in doubt but he appeared in confident mood when asked about the injury.

"It is getting there," he said.

"I can sit here and say I will be 100 per cent fit for the game on Monday but I have been saying that for the last two games as well.

"It is about judging my back every day. It is slowly getting better, there is no doubt about it.

"But I am as keen as ever to try to get on the field and help this team have some success."
