Brad Haddin: Claims he has been dropped by Australia

Sky Bet

Disappointed Australia wicketkeeper Brad Haddin fears his ODI career could be over after he was dropped for the start of triangular series against India and Sri Lanka.

Haddin has been replaced by Victorian Matthew Wade for the first three matches of the triangular one-day tournament, with no guarantee he will get his spot back later in the series.

And although chairman of selectors John Inverarity and coach Mickey Arthur have both said Haddin was being given a breather following the Test series against India, the 34-year-old insists he has been axed.

"I think any time you're out of the Australian cricket team you're dropped," Haddin told Sky Sports Radio in Australia.

"You give another guy an opportunity to take your spot (and) if they do well you could find it hard to get back in the team.

"If you give your spot up and someone does well you've got no right to walk straight back in. You might never play again."

Inverarity and Arthur are adamant Haddin is not finished at the top level, choosing Wade with a view to taking him on the autumn tour to the West Indies as back-up keeper.

Competition

Asked how news of his omission was put to him, Haddin replied: "(They said) we need to see how young Matty Wade goes at this level.

"It was seen as a good opportunity to play him and, from my point of view, if he does well there is no guarantee you'll get your spot (back).

"That's what happens and I've got to deal with that and make sure my next opportunity I'm ready to go."

While denying Haddin had been dropped, Arthur said: "Nobody has got a permanent place in the Australian cricket side.

"We want to create depth and competition I really hope Matty does (take this opportunity).

"Brad knows where he stands."
