Eoin Morgan disappointed with size of England's Duckworth-Lewis method task

Captain Eoin Morgan hopes games like England's narrow defeat by New Zealand on Friday will lead to tweaks in the Duckworth-Lewis method.

Eighth-wicket partners Adil Rashid and Liam Plunkett were scoring quickly, with England's requirement down to 54 from 37 balls when a heavy rain shower hit the Kia Oval.

Morgan was disappointed to see England left to chase 34 runs in 13 balls when the target was recalculated, and his side fell 13 runs short as New Zealand levelled the series at 1-1 after a second successive 50-over game full of excitement.

"It's a huge ask, probably not only to chase down 399 but to have 34 to chase in 13 balls - given we set it up so deep, and the guys were in and momentum was with us," Morgan said.

"I think, as the game evolves - particularly as much as it has done in 50-over cricket - Duckworth-Lewis could certainly be looked at.

"Personally, I think it will change over time.

"Potentially that could be looked at - but we were glad to get back out there and get a result. There's nothing more frustrating than rain ending the game."

Chris Jordan, England

Morgan had plenty to smile about despite the narrow defeat, with England making their biggest score (365-9) when chasing and again showing the cavalier style they had when winning at Edgbaston.

"We're enjoying playing this brand of cricket," he said. "The guys can play it naturally, and it's not such a big deal.

"We've a very young group. So there's a huge amount of potential and talent to work with. That's great for any captain."

The one concern to come from the second game was an injury to Chris Jordan, with the Sussex all-rounder unable to bowl his 10 overs because of a side injury.

Morgan did not sound optimistic about the seamer's prospects of being fit to play at the Ageas Bowl on Sunday.

"Sides are funny ones with bowlers. You don't know quite how bad it is until the can comes through," Morgan added. "But he's going to be in doubt."
