Moeen Ali plans to join England for the latter stages of their tour of the West Indies as he recovers from injury.
The off-spinning all-rounder hurt himself during England's failed World Cup campaign and was not available when the selectors chose the squad to tour the Caribbean.
Selectors left a place open for Ali, however, with James Tredwell and the uncapped Adil Rashid chosen in the squad to offer some initial frontline spin options.
Ali has resumed training with Worcestershire and has begun net practice as a batman but has yet to bowl.
The 27-year-old told Cricinfo he plans to use the two-day warm-up match against Northamptonshire and then Worcestershire's first County Championship match against title-holders Yorkshire as preparation ahead of re-joining the England team.
"I'm hoping to play that game against Yorkshire, prove my fitness and fly immediately afterwards,” he said of the April 12 match.
A strong, injury-free performance could see Ali take up a place in the England side in time for the second Test starting on April 21. The final Test of the series begins in Barbados on May 1.
