India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has been fined 60 per cent of his match fee for maintaining a slow over-rate during the fifth Test against England at the Kia Oval.
Match referee Ranjan Madugalle imposed a 30 per cent fine for all India players after Dhoni’s side were deemed three overs short of its target during the crushing innings and 244-run defeat.
In accordance with ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel regulations governing minor over-rate offences, players are fined 10 per cent of their match fees for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time, with the captain fined double that amount.
As such, Dhoni was fined 60 per cent of his match fee while his players received 30 per cent penalties.
Captain Dhoni is now in danger of facing a one-match suspension after a number of breaches.
One more minor over-rate offence in Test matches over the next 12 months will result in a match ban for the India skipper, who oversaw a 3-1 defeat to England, their fifth successive series reverse away from home.
