Alastair Cook will lead England once again for the third Test against India, which starts at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton on Sunday.
There had been speculation that the captain might be replaced after Monday’s loss to India continued England’s terrible run of form.
But Cook will continue to captain the side, while Lancashire's Jos Buttler is to replace Matt Prior as wicket-keeper and will make his Test debut.
However, there is no place in the squad for Lancashire's Simon Kerrigan so England will again be reliant on Moeen Ali for a spin option.
Cook is England's all-time leading century-maker but has been in very poor form this year and has led the team to seven defeats in their last nine Tests.
However, in the wake of Monday's 95-run loss to India at Lord's, Cook said he had no intention of resigning, and the selectors have backed him to oversee a revival in England's fortunes.
Exciting 23-year-old Buttler will get his chance behind the stumps, Prior having decided to take a break from international cricket in order to regain full fitness after some injury problems.
National Selector James Whitaker said: “The result of the second Investec Test at Lord’s was very disappointing.
"One or two of our players had encouraging performances but it is vital that the squad learns quickly and arrives in Southampton this week refreshed and ready to perform well, in what will no doubt be another tough Test match.
“Congratulations to Jos Buttler, who comes into the squad following some very exciting limited overs performances for England. He has a good record for Lancashire this season and fully deserves this opportunity.
"Matt Prior has contributed a huge amount to the England side over the years and should be proud of his record throughout his 79 Tests.
"He has decided to take time out of the game to work on his fitness and we will continue to follow his progress over the coming months."
Seamers Chris Jordan and Chris Woakes are in the 13-man squad and will come into contention if England decide to rotate their seam attack.
India lead the five-match series 1-0, with three Tests still to play.
