England have named an unchanged squad for the second Test against New Zealand at Headingley after Ian Bell was passed fit.

The Warwickshire batsman was forced to bat down the order in the second innings of the first Test at Lord's as he was suffering from a fever but he has been given the all-clear for Friday.

Bell scored 31 in his first knock at Lord's but managed just six after coming off his sick bed to bat in the second innings.

Off-spinner Graeme Swann felt nauseous on the fourth morning at Lord's but he is also fine for Headingley.

Swann missed out on selection for England's last Test trip to Leeds last August when they drew with South Africa.

Pleasing

But the Nottinghamshire bowler is involved this time, in a 12-man squad which again includes Yorkshire seamer Tim Bresnan as well as Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow for their home Tests.

Alastair Cook's side won the opening Test by 170 runs and will be looking for a similar result in the second and final Test to boost confidence in the camp ahead of back-to-back Ashes series.

"It was pleasing to start the international summer with a win over New Zealand in the first Investec Test and I thought the team showed a lot of fighting spirit when under pressure to set up the victory," said National Selector Geoff Miller.

"We are aware that there are still areas that we need to improve on and the players and coaches will be working hard ahead of the second Test to ensure we continue to get better as a side.

"New Zealand showed again that they are a dangerous side and we know we will need to produce another strong performance this week to secure a series victory."

England squad: N Cook (capt), J Anderson, J Bairstow, I Bell, T Bresnan, S Broad, N Compton, S Finn, M Prior (wkt), J Root, G Swann, JTrott
