Kevin Pietersen has been ruled out of England's Test series against New Zealand as he continues to fight a knee injury.
The batsman returned home early from England's recent drawn series with the Kiwis and was put in a knee brace.
Coach Andy Flower said last month he expected Pietersen to play "a full part in the summer", but that plan has now been revised after the latest assessment of the injury.
A statement on the England and Wales Cricket Board's Twitter page read: "Kevin Pietersen has been ruled out of the series vs New Zealand as he continues his recovery from bone bruising to his right knee.
"Pietersen will have a repeat scan next week to determine when he is able to resume training."
England are scheduled to play two Tests against New Zealand, the first of which begins at Lord's on May 16.
A one-day series is then followed by the ICC Champions Trophy before Australia arrive for the first of this year's back-to-back Ashes series.
Pietersen has until July 10 to get himself fit for the first Test against the Aussies at Trent Bridge.
