James Anderson has leapt to the defence of fellow England seamer Stuart Broad and tipped him to come good in the remaining two Tests in India.
Broad has yet to take a single wicket in the opening two matches, although the wickets in Ahmedabad and Mumbai both heavily favoured spin.
Many critics have suggested that Broad, England's vice-captain, should be replaced by Middlesex paceman Steven Finn for next week's third Test in Kolkata.
"It's difficult," said Anderson. "If you're not on top of your game out here, you're going to go for runs - and that's what's happened to Broady.
"He's been through this before. We've all been through it, where you're slightly out of form. But he's a strong character, strong enough to bounce back."
Anderson also denied that England suffered from a lack of confidence in their opening nine-wicket defeat in Ahmedabad, and he described their 10-wicket triumph in Mumbai as one of the team's finest performances on record.
"I think the confidence was always there," added Anderson. "We just had a bit of a slip-up in the first innings at Ahmedabad, which cost us the game.
"It was quite easy for everyone to say we were going to lose 4-0 after that first Test, but we kept believing we could actually cause an upset in this series.
"I thought it was an incredible effort in Mumbai. It's certainly up there as one of the best we've ever had. We needed a couple of guys to stand up, and we had three or four who really stood up and gave a great account of themselves."
