Stuart Broad is a fitness doubt for England having missed training ahead of the second Test with India in Mumbai.
The touring vice-captain had been carrying a heel injury heading into the crushing first Test defeat in Ahmedabad but ended up playing a full part, and is expected to pass tests again after a spokesperson described his condition as "under the weather."
With seamer Steven Finn already ruled out of the Mumbai Test by a thigh problem, Surrey quick Stuart Meaker and Durham's Graham Onions are standing by should Broad fail to make the grade.
Captain Alastair Cook remains in optimistic mood ahead of the clash, despite a nine-wicket defeat in the series opener.
Cook, who struck a valiant second-innings 176 as England tried in vain to salvage something, said on Thursday: "We have been working hard in training; we have been doing the right things.
"It's about transferring that out into the middle and being able to get into the rhythm of batting out there. I am confident. The guys have done it in the past."
