England Twenty20 captain does not need surgery on shoulder injury
Stuart Broad has conceded that he will probably not play for England again this year despite finding out that he does not need surgery on his shoulder injury.
The Twentry20 captain tore a muscle in his right shoulder during England's one-day international against India at Lord's earlier in September.
The injury meant that he was immediately ruled out of the final ODI against the tourists in Cardiff, the two upcoming T20 internationals against the West Indies, and the five ODIs in India in October.
There were hopes that Broad would return for the lone 20-over game in India on October 29, but the seamer admits the chances of him being back by then are very slim.
"The shoulder is still quite sore. It's a two-month injury so I'm concentrating on making sure I am in the best possible shape for the games against Pakistan in January," Broad said.
"It's not 100 per cent confirmed I'll not play in India but I'll only play if the rehab goes fantastically well.
Good news
"It's good news that I don't need surgery. There is always an extra risk with surgery so that would be a worry.
"It is a two-month recovery time though so I need to get that right and make sure it is completely over and I don't have any side effects with it."
If Broad misses the T20 game in India, Graeme Swann will continue to fill in as skipper as Eoin Morgan has also been ruled out until next year with a shoulder injury.
The injury blow comes at an inopportune interval for Broad, who faced criticism early in the summer before bouncing back to take 25 wickets and win man of the series in England's 4-0 Test whitewash of India.
Broad added: "It was one of the best series of my career.
"Winning man of the series in one of the signature Test series is a big honour, but winning it 4-0 was more important and playing India off the park was something special.
"It is something that this team will always remember."
