Big-hitting opener determined to cash in against good friend

Stanford Superstars skipper Chris Gayle has promised England counterpart Kevin Pietersen that he will get him out on Saturday. The two good friends will go head-to-head in the winner-takes-all $20 million match in Antigua, the richest game of cricket ever to be played. The pair got to know each other as part of the World XI that played against Australia back in 2005 and have kept in touch since. They could find themselves in a one-on-one battle for the money this weekend with a Stanford Super Over being used to settle the contest in the event of it finishing as a tie.

Good relationship

"Hopefully I am going to kick his you know what," said the West Indies left-handed opener. "We first met for the games in Australia when we were playing for the World XI and we have built a good relationship from there. "He is a good guy who has rallied his team really well as the new captain. He is aware of situations on the field, knows his gameplan and knows his cricket and so on and so forth. "He is a dangerous player, there is no doubt about it, but I have told him I will get him out already." While England have travelled to the Caribbean with their regular one-day squad the Superstars have been selected by a panel of West Indian greats. As well as international regulars like Gayle, Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Ramnaresh Sarwan, there are also some fresh faces such as Andre Fletcher, who hit 90 in the warm-up win over Middlesex on Thursday.
Training hard
Gayle insists the squad of players have been training hard for the massive clash with each standing to win $1 million apiece if they are successful. "It doesn't matter which team I am playing for, I just try to get the job done," he added. "That's how I play cricket, I have been picked to produce and you have to give it your all out there. "All the guys have been training hard and it will be really disappointing to walk away empty handed. It is a game of cricket so whatever happens life still goes on, but it will really hurt to lose this game."
