While England fell to yet another defeat at the WACA in December 2013, Ben Stokes announced himself to the cricketing world with a brilliant century.
The Durham all-rounder came in with England struggling at 121-4 chasing a world-record 504 to win but where others might have wilted in the Western Australian heat, Stokes came out fighting.
He put on 99 for the fifth wicket with Ian Bell before continuing the alongside Matt Prior. The keeper fell early on day five but Stokes battled on with his powerful hitting ensuring the Australians weren't able to relax despite their significant advantage.
Stokes brought up his ton before falling for 120 from 195 balls having hit 18 fours and a six.
After his dismissal England crumbled and the host wrapped up a 150-run victory but there was hope for England, primarily in the shape of Stokes.
