The Ashes: Botham walks off as Sky Bet Charity Challenge winner

The importance of the Ashes

Sir Ian Botham has strolled to victory in Sky Bet's 10k Charity Challenge - raising £7,200 to get his Big Sri Lanka Walk off to a fast start!

Botham's impressive total earned him victory over co-commentators Nasser Hussain, David Lloyd, Andrew Strauss and Mike Atherton, giving him even more reason to celebrate England's 3-0 series victory.

The former England all-rounder stormed ahead after predicting that James Anderson would take the most wickets for England in the first innings of the first Test and the seamer duly delivered by helping himself to 5-85 at Trent Bridge to earn Beefy £200 - plus a £1,000 bonus.

With none of the pundits backing a winner in the second Test, the £1,000 was split equally by the five pundits. Nasser and Bumble both made successful selections for Old Trafford but the former England skipper took the honours - and the bonus - by virtue of winning more money for charity.

But the fourth Test belonged to Andrew, who correctly backed Alastair Cook to be England's top run-scorer in the first innings - the skipper's 51 netting him winnings of £350, earning Strauss the £1,000 bonus.

That meant that after four Tests, Botham, Strauss and Hussain were level-pegging having raised a total of £1,200 each for their respective causes but the final honours went to Beefy as he correctly predicted that Australia would win the toss at 10/11 - his £90.91 winnings eclipsing Nasser's £72.73 return for backing England to have the highest first-innings wicket stand at 8/11.

After generating the most winnings over the Series, Beefy duly collected a £5,000 bonus for his chosen charity.
