1977: Born on October 27 in Matale.
2000: July 5 - Makes his one-day international debut against Pakistan in Galle.
July 20 - Makes his Test debut against South Africa in Galle. He makes 23 as Sri Lanka win by an innings and 115 runs.
2001: August - Makes his first Test century, an unbeaten 105, against India in Galle.
2003: Makes his first ODI century, an unbeaten 100, against Pakistan in Sharjah.
2005: October - Named in the World XI for the ICC Super Series ODIs against Australia.
2006: Steps down from wicketkeeping role in Tests, handing the gloves to Prasanna Jayawardene, to concentrate on batting.
July - Makes his Test-best score of 287 in a Test match against South Africa at the SSC Ground in Colombo. In that game he and Mahela Jayawardene put on a world record partnership of 624 runs for the third wicket.
