Stephen Peters has signed a new two-year deal to lead Northamptonshire on their return to Division One.
Peters, 34, was appointed as skipper last season and promptly took the side to promotion with a second-placed finish in the LV= County Championship's second tier.
The batsman, who scored 735 first-class runs at 52.50 during the campaign, has been at the County Ground since signing from Worcestershire in 2006 and will now stay until at least 2015.
Peters said: "I am absolutely delighted to have signed a new contract with Northants as last year was superb for all involved with the club.
"I'm proud to have played a part in that success and look forward to helping the club progress even further in the next couple of years."
Head coach David Ripley added: "Stephen's influence on last year's success was immense, he has the respect of everybody in the dressing room, from senior players to debutants. I look forward to working with him, building on last year's promotion, as we prepare for life in Division One."
As well as winning promotion last season, Northamptonshire were also crowned Friends Life t20 champions.
