Northamptonshire have confirmed that veteran wicketkeeper Jon Batty is set to feature against Hampshire this week.

The 39-year-old announced his retirement at the end of last season after 18 seasons with Surrey and Gloucestershire.

But he has been registered by Northants for their County Championship clash with Hampshire as David Murphy is on international duty with Scotland and England U19 captain Ben Duckett is sidelined by injury.

Northants head coach David Ripley said: With our two wicketkeepers unavailable for selection in the Hampshire match this week, and given the importance of the fixture for our promotion push, we were looking for an experienced campaigner to help.

"I am delighted that Jonathan has agreed to join us for this match."

Batty, who started his career with Surrey in 1994, scored almost 10,000 runs in 220 first-class matches, claiming 605 catches and 69 stumpings.
