South African all-rounder inks extension with Steelbacks

Northamptonshire captain Andrew Hall has agreed a new deal which will see him remain at Wantage Road until the end of the 2014 season. The South Africa international all-rounder belied his advancing years in the 2011 season, scoring 960 runs at an average of over 50 and taking 28 wickets in Division Two of the LV County Championship. Hall, 36, who will stay in Northampton on a full-time basis where he will coach the club's young players during the winter months, said: "I'm delighted that I've been offered this two year extension. "I've had a good season so far and I hope to continue to help the county achieve their ambitions of future success. "When I started here, (head coach) David Capel and I said we wanted to bring through the next group of local, young players, and with me staying for 12 months of the year, it gives me a great opportunity to work with them." Capel added: "Andrew has done particularly well for us over the past few years. Again he is leading the way with the bat this year, in terms of playing some very important innings, especially in the Championship. "Andrew has worked extremely hard leading the team this season, and he puts his heart and soul into the role. I'm very pleased Andrew has committed to extending his role with us for the foreseeable future, and I look forward to continuing working with him in leading and coaching throughout the ranks at Northants Cricket."
