A round-up of the latest action from the County Championship.

Division One

Hampshire v Sussex

Result - Sussex beat Hampshire by 92 runs at the Ageas Bowl. The hosts began the final day on 181-4 chasing a victory target of 384. But they lost Will Smith (23) in the third over, edging Matthew Hobden behind, and the fast bowler then bowled Adam Wheater for 12. Gareth Berg followed for 14 and Hampshire’s last realistic hope, Sean Ervine (42), then lost his wicket to the part-time off-breaks of Luke Wells who removed him with his first ball. Chris Wood (30) offered some resistance before nicking Steve Magoffin behind and Wells finished it by bowling James Tomlinson.

Latest Cricket Stories

Middlesex v Nottinghamshire

Tea - Middlesex are fighting hard for a draw here but have slipped to 235-5 ahead of the final session. The hosts lost Nick Compton in the afternoon, caught at slip off Harry Gurney for a fine 85, and Paul Stirling was caught at second slip for a golden duck next ball. John Simpson (11) has also gone, bowled by Jake Ball, but skipper Adam Voges is proving very hard to shift and has made 66 not out. Dawid Malan is not expected to bat due to a hand injury however, so Notts may need just four wickets in the final session to win.

Division Two

Northants v Gloucestershire

Tea – A draw remains on the cards at Wantage Road and Gloucestershire are 235-2 in the final session, as they look to bat out the day, a victory target of 454 not likely to prove in reach. Gloucestershire lost just the one wicket in the afternoon session, Gareth Roderick falling lbw to Rob Keogh, but Chris Dent is still going very strong and has reached 86 not out.

Leicestershire v Glamorgan

Tea – Barring a Leicestershire collapse, a draw will be the outcome at Grace Road. The hosts were set a very improbable 306 to win and are 34-2 at tea, having lost Dan Redfern for a duck and first-innings centurion Ned Eckersley for a single. Glamorgan earlier finished on 227-7 declared, Chris Cooke making 81 and Craig Meschede hitting 33 not out off 29 balls.
