Derbyshire lost their perfect record in Group A of the Royal London One-Day Cup when rain ruined their clash with Worcestershire at New Road.

When the visitors' response to Worcestershire’s total of 261 all out was halted they were up in the Duckworth-Lewis calculations but still 14 balls short of batting for the minimum period of 10 overs.

Openers Billy Godleman and Wes Durston made it to 37-0 in 7.4 overs when a series of thundery shows began to roll in over the Malvern Hills.

If they had been able to get back on the field in time to reach the 10-over requirement, they would have needed only six more runs to wrap up a third straight victory in the first week of the competition.

But instead the match finished with no result, with Derbyshire skipper Wayne Madsen at least being able to take some solace from the fact his bowlers – especially Mark Footitt (4-65) and Tom Taylor (3-48) – continued their strong form.

The main highlight for Worcestershire was a fifth-wicket stand of 114 in 18 overs between Tom Kohler-Cadmore (71) and Ross Whiteley (53).
