Gloucestershire have signed Australian batsman Ed Cowan, subject to visa approval.
The left-hander, who has made seven Test appearances but was recently not awarded a central contract, has joined the English county on a short-term deal.
With New Zealander Rob Nichol not expected to arrive until late in July to replace compatriot Kane Williamson, Gloucestershire had space to bring in another overseas player.
Cowan is now expected to feature in their last three Friends Life t20 fixtures, as well as the LV= County Championship Division Two match against Essex and two Clydesdale Bank 40 clashes.
The Tasmanian would then link up with the Australia A squad ahead of their tour of England.
