Leicestershire's former director of cricket Phil Whitticase has left the club, ending a 31-year association with the county.

The 49-year-old started out at Grace Road as a teenage wicketkeeper and made his debut in 1984, the start of a 12-year playing career, spanning 132 first-class matches.

He then joined the backroom team and enjoyed two spells in charge of the first XI, from 2002-2006 and again between 2010 and 2013.

Whitticase was retained as director of cricket and academy director last season but a winless campaign in County Championship Division Two led to a comprehensive restructure and the arrival of former Australia all-rounder Andrew MacDonald as head coach.

Leicestershire chairman Paul Haywood said: "We would like to thank Phil Whitticase for his fantastic service to Leicestershire county cricket club over the last 31 years.
