Ramnaresh Sarwan will replace Matthew Hoggard as captain of Leicestershire in the County Championship next season.
Former England fast bowler Hoggard has led Leicestershire for the last three years, captaining them to a shock victory in the Friends Life t20 in 2011.
But they have had a lean time in four-day cricket, finishing bottom of Division Two in 2011 and third from bottom last season.
Josh Cobb will captain the Foxes in both the shorter formats of the game.
Hoggard said: "I have enjoyed being captain over the past three years but I feel that it is the right time to hand over the reins."
The 35-year-old former Yorkshire seamer had a public falling out in his first season at Leicestershire with chairman Neil Davidson, who accused Hoggard of "irresponsible behaviour (which) has led to the chaos that has engulfed the club" after resigning from his post.
Head coach Phil Whitticase said: "I've really enjoyed working with Matthew over the past three years, especially during our successful T20 campaign.
"It is important for everyone to get behind Ronnie as we look to take the club forward."
