Tim Murtagh has withdrawn from the Ireland squad to face England on Friday because of a hamstring injury.

The seamer tore his hamstring while bowling for Middlesex in their County Championship clash with Durham at Lord's on Monday.

Murtagh came out to bat in Middlesex's dreadful second innings, and managed to top score on 22 not out despite the injury and the need for a runner.

He will have a scan on Tuesday to determine the severity of the tear but will definitely not be available for Friday's match at Malahide.

Cricket Ireland have confirmed no replacement will be called up, leaving them with a squad of 13 for the match against an experimental England side, captained by James Taylor.
