Essex all-rounder Greg Smith has signed a new two-year deal.
Smith, 30, joined the Chelmsford club in September 2011 from Derbyshire, where he was a lynchpin of the batting line-up and a key bowler too.
But he struggled to make an impression an impression in 2012 and the early months of the 2013 season.
In the second half of the season though Smith has shone, particularly with the bat.
He has scored 446 runs at an average 40.55 in the County Championship, including a career-best 177 against Gloucestershire in August.
He has also played some fine innings in the Yorkshire Bank 40 where he averages 41 this season.
