Teenager Tom Kohler-Cadmore narrowly missed a maiden first-class century at New Road as Division Two leaders Worcestershire moved closer to a second County Championship win over Leicestershire in a month.

The 19-year-old was bowled by Dan Redfern for 99 after helping Worcestershire to second-innings declaration at 416-8, which set bottom-of-the-table Leicestershire a target of 458.

Greg Smith opened up with eight fours in an unbeaten 38 but a 27th championship game without a victory is the most likely outcome for Leicestershire, with Angus Robson and Ned Eckersley already out as they reached 56-2 in 21 overs by the close. They will require a further 402 runs on the last day.

Michael Carberry's 48 not out guided second-placed Hampshire into a 44-run lead at 83-1 in their second innings at stumps on day three against Essex at Colchester.

Essex had earlier been limited to a first-innings advantage of 39 after collapsing from 187-2 to 285 all out.

Jesse Ryder (79) and Ravi Bopara (69) put on 115 for the third wicket but the middle and lower order subsided quickly thereafter as Hampshire's bowlers shared the wickets around.
