Surrey batsman Tom Maynard has signed a one-year contract extension to keep him at the club until the end of the 2014 season.

Maynard, 22, joined Surrey from Glamorgan ahead of the 2010 season and scored 1,022 first-class runs at an average of almost 41.

He also averaged over 40 in the Clydesdale Bank 40 and Friends Provident t20 to earn a place in England's Performance Programme party.

"I am really pleased to sign an extension to my contract," he said.

"I have enjoyed my first season at the club - to be part of a winning team is something every cricketer strives for and I am positive we will continue to build on our achievements in 2012."
