Ian Westwood fell agonisingly short of his double-hundred as Warwickshire made 435 and then restricted Yorkshire to 128-3 on day two of their LV= County Championship Division One match at Headingley.

Starting the day on 270-4, Westwood reached 196 from 377 balls before he was adjudged lbw to James Middlebrook.

Tim Bresnan then continued his good form by claiming his fourth wicket to remove Peter McKay and once Westwood was gone, Rikki Clarke's breezy 39 was brought to an end by Matthew Fisher.

Bresnan (5-85) completed his five-for by removing Jeetan Patel for 31.

Yorkshire's response began solidly, but Patel had Alex Lees trapped in front just before lunch before claiming Will Rhodes (46). Boyd Rankin then had Chesteshwar Pujara caught behind before Andrew Gale (17no) and Jack Leaning (17no) saw them to stumps.

A recap of all the action from Monday's county cricket matches.

Nottinghamshire will be hopeful of securing a significant first-innings lead after restricting Hampshire to 167-4 on day two at the Ageas Bowl, still 204 behind the visitors.

After resuming the day on 301-6, Notts lost centurion Alex Hales early on as the England hopeful could only add five to his overnight 136 before he was bowled by Andre Adams.

When Vernon Philander and Will Gidman followed him back, Notts needed a handy last-wicket stand of 67 between Luke Wood (26no) and Jake Ball (26) to see them to their total.

In reply, Jimmy Adams impressed for his 61 only to be caught behind off Luke Wood at 129-3, before James Vince was run out for 32.

But Notts' bid to make further inroads was ended by bad light halting play early for the day.

Sussex are 115-3 in their second innings - good for a lead of 111 after Durham eked out a four-run first-innings lead on day two at the Emirates Durham ICG.

After resuming the day on 103-2, Durham needed a quickfire 72 from 86 balls from John Hastings, who shared a 116-run ninth-wicket stand with Usman Arshad (35), to boost them past their opponents as regular wickets fell through the day.

Olly Robinson - who scored a century on his first-class debut on Sunday - continued his match to remember by claiming 4-71, including the Durham top three and Paul Collingwood, as the hosts were dismissed for 339.

Sussex's second dig has had contributions from the top four, but Ed Joyce (30), Chris Nash (24) and Craig Cachopa (24) all failed to capitalise on starts, leaving much responsibility on Matt Machan (25no) when play resumes on Tuesday.

Jamie Overton took two wickets late in the day to swing the match back in Somerset's favour after 90s by Nick Gubbins and Adam Voges had threatened to put Middlesex in control.

After resuming on 10-0 in reply to 408, Middlesex reached stumps 306-7 having been 297-5 shortly before the close, Overton pegging them back by bowling both John Simpson and Ollie Raynor.

Gubbins earlier crunched 12 fours and two sixes for his 92 before Overton had him caught by Marcus Trescothick, while Voges was only two short of his ton when he was trapped in front by Lewis Gregory.

The two wickets to fall before lunch were both former England openers, with Sam Robson making just five before he was caught off Gregory (4-93), while Nick Compton looked fluent for his 28 to then become Gregory's second victim with a catch behind.
