Rain wiped out nearly all of Sunday’s Royal London One-Day Cup action, with four games abandoned before a ball had even been bowled.

Only one of the six fixtures ended up being completed, with Sussex making it three wins on the spin with a seven-wicket triumph over Group B rivals Somerset at Taunton.

With the match reduced to 33 overs-per-side, Somerset made 193-8 despite former player Yasir Arafat claiming 5-36. Colin Ingram top-scored with 72, while Nick Compton and James Hildreth made 42 apiece.

Peter Hayter says that Sam Robson has to prove himself to stay at the top of the order for England.

The Sharks - who should perhaps be suited to such wet conditions - then cruised to a revised target of 189 with four overs to spare, Ed Joyce (46 not out) and Matt Machan (47no) sharing an unbroken stand of 94 for the fourth wicket.

They did also make a start at Chester-le-Street, Durham reaching 56-3 from 14 overs against Middlesex before the heavens opened at Chester-le-Street, making no further action possible.

Home skipper Mark Stoneman dominated the Durham innings with an unbeaten 46, with Paul Collingwood alongside him on seven not out when play was eventually halted.

Toby Roland-Jones had picked up two wickets for Middlesex, combining with fielder Ollie Rayner to see off Phil Mustard and Ben Stokes, who failed to trouble the scorers. Calum MacLeod also fell for a duck, bowled by Tim Murtagh.
