Glamorgan have been boosted by the signing of veteran batsman Murray Goodwin on an initial one-year deal.

The 39-year-old former Zimbabwe international spent 12 years with Sussex before leaving Hove at the end of last season.

Goodwin scored more than 24,000 runs in all competitions for the Sharks, including Sussex's highest individual innings of 344 not out against Somerset in 2009, as the county won seven trophies during his time on the south coast.

"We're delighted to sign Murray Goodwin as he will strengthen the batting line-up and has plenty to offer to benefit our batting group," said Glamorgan's head of elite performance Matthew Mott.

"Murray has played the best part of his career at Sussex and had a massive effect on Sussex cricket, so we can't wait to have him in the squad."

Goodwin declared himself keen to add a new chapter to his career with the Welsh outfit.

"I am really pleased to be continuing my cricket career with Glamorgan and look forward to joining up with the players and staff," he said.

"I have had lengthy conversations with Matthew Mott and am aware of the challenges the team faced last year and the hard work that lies ahead of us.

"But I am determined to help bring success back to the club and feel I still have a lot to offer in all formats of the game."

Glamorgan ended the campaign sixth in Division Two of the County Championship and were second-bottom of their groups in both the Clydesdale Bank 40 and Friends Life t20.
