Middlesex cement hold on top spot

Middlesex cemented top spot in the First Division of the County Championship after beating Sussex by 79 runs at Hove to claim their third successive win.

Chasing 287 to win, Sussex were 92-1 but lost wickets regularly thereafter once Matt Machan (29) and skipper Ed Joyce (0) fell in successive Neil Dexter overs.

They were bowled out for 207 as Dexter finished with 4-41 including opener Mike Yardy off the last ball before tea for 52, the only half-century of the match.

Durham beat Nottinghamshire by six wickets to secure their third Championship win of the season and maintain their solid start to the season.

Needing 261, Durham began on 15-1 and nightwatchman Mark Wood posted 66 - his highest first-class score - putting on 116 with Keaton Jennings (61).
