Jeetan Patel is set to sign a new two-year contract as Warwickshire's overseas player.
The New Zealand international spinner was a key member of the Bears' title-winning side, taking 51 wickets.
The last overseas star offered such a contract was Pakistan batsman Younis Khan, who had a change of heart and did not actually arrive.
Director of Cricket Ashley Giles said: "'Jeets' has been offered a two-year and it's all agreed. Last time we offered a two-year to an overseas player was Younis Khan but I think we have got a bit more comfort with Jeets!
"He hasn't signed it yet but he likes it here and we love having him here so there shouldn't be any problem. It is a position that is crucial to what we are trying to build here and he has been brilliant for us.
"Getting him back for another two years will also give us a bit more to time to work with Chris Metters. We had hoped Metts would be a year further on but he got injured so he needs another couple of years."
